Born in Dublin in 1974, Peter Shaughnessy grew up in Naas, Co. Kildare, and studied photography at Griffith College. Since graduating in 1996 he has worked as a photographer for newspapers, magazines, and weddings. He was a winner of the 1997 and 1999 Young Irish Photographer of the Year competitions sponsored by O'Brien's Irish Sandwich Bars and the Irish Independent newspaper. In February 2008 he received a grant from Irish Aid (Department of Foreign Affairs) to travel to Zambia to shoot a photo-story in the village of Mapepe, at a school for 200 children orphaned by HIV. Photos from that story, 'The School Around The Corner', were shown in exhibition in counties Kildare, Roscommon and Leitrim in June. |
